Elementary Music

Music at an elementary level is a surprisingly complex subject. For effective learning to take place, the subject matter must be presented in such a way that the child is able to put the subject in their quality world. I find that the works of Carl Orff are just as true today as they were when he first developed his method: A child's work is play. By presenting lessons in the form of games and activities that start with small concepts and prior experiences while slowly applying more advanced concepts, children are able to learn music remarkably well. This method also allows children to learn music both with and without printed music: skills that are crucial as students advance in their music education.
